Mitchell's Oil Field Service takes Safety seriously!

Michell's Oil Field Service Inc - Sidnney MontanaThe very nature of the oil industry presents many hazards. We are committed to safely conducting business. Most jobs we take on have some risk involved and many are high risk.Michell's Oil Field Service Inc - Sidnney Montana

To offset this risk Mitchell’s Oil Field Service has stringent safety policies. We are constantly reviewing and/or adding to our policies. We are currently working on adding a SSE (Short Service Employee) policy and Employee identification badges with picture ID’s.

For the last two years we have been building a database of JSA’s (Job Safety Analysis). Many crews perform JSA’s before every job. We are considering adopting the policy of requiring the JSA’s to be performed company wide. Currently every crew is required to conduct a Tailgate Safety Meeting before every job. The new policy would require the JSA to be consulted during this Tailgate Meeting.

Michell's Oil Field Service Inc - Sidnney MontanaLast year Mitchell’s Oil Field Service updated its training program for new hires. The new program utilizes CD-Rom Interactive training sessions. The interactive training familiarizes the new employee with all the basic safety requirements for working in the oil field. The new hires are then sent in the field with experienced foremen. The foremen watch the new hire to determine their ability to perform tasks safely. As the employee gains experience he/she is given increasingly challenging tasks to perform.

Michell's Oil Field Service Inc - Sidnney Montana Mitchell’s Oil Field Service believes observations are an important part of ensuring safety in the field. John McWilliams and Richard Halvorson regularly perform safety audits/observations in the field.

We have approximately 28 Roustabout crews, 16 Crane/Cherry Picker Operators and 16 Truck Drivers. Our goal is to visit each Roustabout crew at least once a month. The Truck Drivers, Crane & Cherry Picker jobs are observed whenever there are jobs being performed in the close proximity to where our safety officers are traveling to observe the Roustabout crews.

Part of Mitchell’s Oil Field’s Safety Policy requires refresher training on many topics. To fulfill this requirement we conduct monthly safety meetings. In addition to refresher training our safety meetings include discussions about the near misses reported the previous month and various safety concerns. Other training events include our annual 8 Hour Hazwoper training, annual Fit Testing as part of our Respiratory Program, and bi-annual First Aid/CPR training.

As Mitchell’s Oil Field Service continues to grow we will continue striving to create a safe work environment. We are constantly researching better training methods. Within the next year we hope to implement a Behavior Based Safety program and an improved Hazwoper Training program. Our commitment to safety will keep us moving forward to a better and safer workplace.
